The average wedding cost for the year period between May of 2009 and April of 2010 was £17,000, but the average couple only purchases wedding policies valued at £12,000 in the case of emergency cancellation.

Founder of the website, Adam Leyton, stated that for a great deal of couples their wedding day will be one of only a few expensive purchases that they ever make together, so while it is great to see couples acting proactively and purchasing insurance they need to consider if they are purchasing enough insurance.

Leyton went on to say that if something occurs that requires a wedding to be cancelled, most couples will probably be surprised to learn they still owe a large amount of money straight out of their pockets even with insurance cover resulting in what is equitably a very high deductible.

There are a handful of reasons that couples may not purchase sufficient insurance cover including the fact that most couples end up going over budget without realizing it or that they are willing to take a gamble on the fact that they will not need full coverage.

Wedding insurance covers not only cancellation, but also can cover anything that goes wrong during, before, or after the wedding is over for example death in the family, serious illness, or a supplier going bankrupt and not being able to offer services that were already paid for.
