Lady Di’s brother to marry

The brother of the late Princess Diana, Earl Spencer has announced his third marriage will be held at his Althorp home on June 18 this year. His bride to be, Karen Gordon, is founder of the Whole Child International charity

Attended by only close friends and family, the wedding will be private. Earl has been wished every happiness in his future marriage by Northampton charities that are supported by him.

Everyone is delighted and all those at the hospice want to wish him a happy and lasting marriage, said Sue Bownass, the Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice community fund raiser.

Since the opening of the charity, nearly 30 years ago, the Spencer family has been patron and the Earl will arrive unannounced and walk and talk to patients and is very supportive.

Further congratulations were paid to Earl from fund raising coordinator for Thomas’s Fund, Lucy Smith. The fund was set up in memory of her son who died at age 10. He was stricken with a life-limiting neuro-degenerative condition. She said the Earl has been a great supporter of Thomas’s Fund since its inception and we are delighted to hear of his future marriage.

Britain’s unluckiest bride ties the know

Yvonne Wilson may well be Britain’s unluckiest bride. The 37-year old woman from Rotheram had to cut short her photo shoot at a local park, after having just been married at a luxury hotel after she was taken ill with agonising stomach pains.

She returned to the hotel for an evening reception. Believing the pains had been some sort of one time attack; she tried to shake them off and prepared to greet her guests. The new Mrs. Wilson never got to greet her guests, as she was slammed once more with unbearable pain and rushed off to the hospital. After a cursory exam by doctors, the brand new bride was given painkillers and released.

She was able to return to her reception for some time, but around one in the morning, near the end of festivities, she was taken by more pain than she could handle yet again. She returned to the hospital for more testing and two weeks later a scan turned up a benign tumour on her womb. She was told the NHS had a six-month waiting list until she could have an operation.

Mr. Wilson did not want his new bride to suffer all those months in pain and together they decided to cancel their Caribbean honeymoon and use the money for private surgery.

The final bit of bad luck came for the bride as a result of her work as a mobile beautician. After removing her wedding and engagement rings to perform a procedure, she forgot them and left them behind at the house where she was working. The following night, the house was burgled and her rings were among the items stolen.

Confetti wedding company goes into administration

Confetti the top wedding retail shop line is now facing administration causing the corporation to close all five of its retail shops placing thousands of couples in serious doubts about the fate of their wedding plans.

The wedding website of the business, which is visited by around eight million people, will still be live according to the administrator, RSM Tenon, as many buyers are being sought out.

The administrator has already placed 48 of the 94 staff members into redundancy and said it planned to cover all existing orders for those who are waiting for dresses, wedding day supplies, and gifts.

The collapse occurred just one short week after Confetti was sold to The Hut Group by Findel along with Iwantoneofthose.com for a total of £600,000. The Hut Group is an online retailer that also runs websites for Argos, Asda, Zavvi, and Tesco.

The net liabilities for Confetti were £19.3m weight against gross assets that only totaled up to £5.7m. This made its pre-tax loss of £13.8 during the year up to April.

Joint administer and director for RSM Tenon, Kenny Craig, stated that Confetti is a top of the market brand and enjoys a large customer following. He continued to say that due to this fact the business still holds plenty of potential for an entrepreneur or retail business that wants to make a splash into the celebrations and wedding market.

Craig added that they are welcoming interested parties to inquire and make sure that they make a bid on the business.

Less marriage breakdowns during World Cup

Divorce experts in the UK claim that the World Cup actually helped out marriages because while England may have failed at the Cup; the divorce rate dropped during the first month of the Cup as couples perhaps found new common ground they could agree on.

The results were released by Divorce-Online.co.uk which deals with about one out of every twenty divorces in Wales and England. The website reported that there was a 35% drop in cases during the month of the cup, which also was seen by the fewer amount of divorce search queries on Google during the World Cup.

However, the figures are a sharp contrast to Government figures that show the amount of divorces officially finalized increasing by 6% over the first three months of the year by about 2,000.

Director of Divorce-Online, Mark Keenan, stated that the lull in divorces is temporary as the economic upturn will now make it more financial viable for couples to consider getting a divorce. Keenan also believes that 2010 will close with a high divorce rate not yet seen.

He explained that couples over the past few years have wanted a divorce but could not afford it, but now that there is a better chance of selling a home or finding mortgage funding it is much more likely that there will be a sharp increase in the divorce rate.

At the moment divorce rates are at the lowest rate seen since the 70’s.

Princess Diana wedding wear goes under the hammer

Back in the 1980’s Princess Diana established herself as a style icon when she was photographed in a daring black taffeta dress when she made her first appearance with Prince Charles as his finance.

Now, fans will get a chance to bid on the gown in June when it hits the auction house although the price tag is expected to be somewhere around £50,000.

The gown is just one of 30 lots that designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel are putting up for sale. Another key item is the chiffon blouse that then Lady Diana Spencer wore in her engagement portrait which is expected to go for £10,000 to £15,000.

Also included are sketches of Princess Diana’s wedding dress which may go for around £1,200 and the final ‘toile’ itself which may go for £12,000

As if these were not enough goodies, the ivory petticoat that Diana wore to her dress rehearsal for the wedding in 1981 is also up for grabs and expected to earn £1,000 as well as letters that correlate to the gown estimated at the same worth.

Collectors may be more interested in the black dress that she wore in 1981 to the Goldsmiths’ Hall in the City because it was the item that placed her on the world stage and made her an icon to many more people than just Britons. The power of the dress is remarkable given that it was in this moment that a member of the royal family actually became known as a fashion icon which previously had never been the case.

Having your perfect wedding cake made

When it comes to planning a wedding there are dozens of things that you have to take care of in order for it to go off without a hitch, but there is only one thing that you will still have to deal with (besides your mate), the cake. Everyone loves a great piece of wedding cake, so here are a few tips to make sure that the cake melting in your mouth is pure perfection both now and later.

First off, always ask the confectioner if you can have a tasting before you place the actual order. Some will even let you sample frostings or provide you with multiple taste testing opportunities.

Second, ask to see the baker’s portfolio so you can get an idea of their style and their ability to pull of the perfect cake design. A great baker should have at least a few dozen photos to share with you that can also be great inspiration for how you would like your cake to look.

Along the same lines, this would be a good time to find out if the baker will custom design a cake for you or if he or she only works from a template selection. Depending on what you want this may make or break the deal.

Last, ideally you want a cake to baked less than ten days before the weeding and frosted within two days of the wedding, so if this is not possible move on because your cake will not be optimally fresh.
